2 nd Lieutenant DSO, DCM, 465 th Battery, 65 th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Died of wounds Saturday, 10 th August 1918 in France. He enlisted in 1900 and was sent to Salonica in 1916 as a battery Sergeant-Major. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for conspicuous bravery under heavy fire at the same time being granted a commission. Transferred to France in early 1918, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order for great gallantry. Husband of C. W. Hall, of 33, Albany Road, Abington Park, Northampton. Private G/67238, 2/2nd Battalion, City of London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers). Died Tuesday, 10th December 1918 in Germany following an illness, aged 20. He enlisted in March 1917, he was sent to France in July 1917. Whilst in action on the Somme in March 1918, he was taken prisoner and held in captivity in Saxony. The St. Mary’s Parish Magazine states that he died on the eve of his release and repatriation. Born in Northampton, he was the son of Frederick James and Alice Hatton, of 99, Abbey Road., Far Cotton, Northampton. Buried Berlin South-Western Cemetery, Germany, XX. D. 7. |

Lakeside Hospital, Cleveland USA sent a medical unit (Lakeside Unit, World War I) under the leadership of Dr George Crile to Rouen, France, as Base Hospital No. 4, to provide medical care for Allied soldiers. The Lakeside Unit arrived in Rouen on May 25, 1917, and was the first American military unit in Europe during World War I. |
