Pacey, Reginald

Pacey, Reginald Rifleman 652487, 21st Battalion, London Regiment (First Surrey Rifles) and formerly 2597 Royal Army Medical Corps (he had been a member of the East Anglian Field Ambulance since 1907). Killed in action Thursday 21st March, 1918 in Syria (known as Palestine at the time), aged 19. The St. Mary’s magazine states he was killed at Jerusalem on Easter Day. He had served in France, Salonica and Egypt. Enlisted in Ipswich. Youngest son of the late Mr J Pacey and Mrs. E. Pacey, of 19, Thirlestone Road., Far Cotton, Northampton. He was a member of the St Mary’s Scout Troop. Prior to enlistment he was in the employ of Messrs. Crockett and Jones. He had 3 other brothers and a brother-in- law serving at the time of his death.

Pearson, Edward John (Ted)

Pearson, Edward John (Ted) Second Lieutenant, "A" Battery, 83rd Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Killed in action by a shell on his dugout on Thursday, 2nd August 1917 in Belgium, aged 25. The shell also killed 2 other officers and severely wounding another. After studying medicine at the School of Medicine in Edinburgh, he was commissioned 6 th July 1916, he went to France on the 26th July. Only son of Benjamin and Jennie Pearson, of 39, York Road, Northampton. Formerly 22, St. Leonards Road, Far Cotton, Northampton (1901 Census). He was born in Northampton.

Phillips, Albert E V

Phillips, Albert E VPrivate 2151, 1/4th Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment. Died at sea aboard HMS Egypt Friday, 23rd November, 1917 on his way back to England from the Dardanelles; he was suffering from dysentery. Born All Saints, Northampton, he enlisted in Northampton and had been a member of the Territorials prior to the War. Son of Mr & Mrs Phillips of 15, St. Leonards Road, Far Cotton. He had previously been employed by Messrs. Bostock Ltd, Victoria Street, Northampton.

Phipps, Arthur Henry

Private 25705, 4th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. Died of wounds Saturday, 13th April, 1918 in Belgium aged 24. He was born and enlisted in Northampton. Son of George and Emily M. Phipps, of 64, St. Leonard's Road, Delapre, Northampton.

Buried at Tournai Communal Cemetery Allied Extension, Belgium V. M. 14.

Pinkard, Percy

Sergeant 10432, 1st Battalion, Highland Light Infantry. Died of wounds in France Wednesday, 7th April, 1915 during the Battle of Neuve Chapelle, aged about 29. Born in Duston, Northamptonshire, he enlisted in Northampton but was resident in Swansea, Glamorganshire at the time of enlistment. At the outbreak of the War he was serving in India and was then posted to the Western Front. Son of Alfred and Mary Ellen Pinkard of 94, St. Leonard's Road, Far Cotton, Northampton (1901 Census) and 96, Euston Road, Far Cotton after the War.

Plackett, Frederick Sidney

Guardsman 24794, 3rd Battalion, Grenadier Guards. Died of wounds in Belgium Thursday, 28th June 1917, aged 21. Born in Newport Pagnell, he enlisted in Aylesbury. Son of Alfred and Agnes Plackett, of 23, Rickard Street., Far Cotton, Northampton.

Private T F 316055, 18th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment. Died of wounds in France Thursday, 26th September, 1918 aged about 38. Born Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, enlisted in Northampton. Brother of Louisa Francis of 44 Towcester Road, Far Cotton, Northampton (1901 Census).

Powell, Harry Charles

Powell, Harry Charles Private 9630, "B" Company, 1st Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment. Died of wounds incurred during the Battle of the Aisne, France on Wednesday, 16th September, 1914 aged 18. The Battalion was engaged in an attack against a sugar factory on the Chemin Des Dames, northwest of Troyon village. Born Ross-on-Wye, Hereford and enlisted in Northampton two years prior to his death. He was mobilised on the outbreak of the War and drafted immediately to the Western Front. Son of Harry and Ellen Powell, of 49, Rickard Street Far Cotton, Northampton.

Prigmore, Alexander Frederick  Private G/31265, 34th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (City of London) Regiment. Killed in action in France Friday, 13th October 1916 aged 24. Born Brightside, he enlisted in Northampton on the 24th March 1916. Son of Mrs Prigmore of 29 Alton Street, Far Cotton. Brother of Mrs. A. E. Frost, of 47, Abbey Road, Far Cotton, Northampton.

Rice, George Reginald

Rifleman 7937, 1st/12th "The Rangers" Battalion, London Regiment (formerly 22957 3rd Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment). Killed in action in France Saturday, 7th October 1916, aged 21. On this day the Battalion made a failed attack at 1.49 p.m. upon Dewdrop Trench towards the end of the Battle of the Somme. Born in Far Cotton, Northampton, he enlisted in Northampton. Son of George and Mary Sophia Rice, of 41, Thirlestane Road., Far Cotton, Northampton.

Riddington, John William

Riddington, John William Sergeant 40081, 1st Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment. Killed in action in the Battle of the Dunes, Belgium Tuesday, 10th July, 1917 aged 28. On this day the Battalion were in trenches amongst the sand dunes of Nieuport Bains when the Germans launched a heavy and protracted artillery barrage, destroying the trenches. The German Marine Division then attacked and captured the British position. Born in Far Cotton, Northampton, he enlisted in Northampton in the 2/4th Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment, he was transferred to a service battalion and sent to France in August 1917. Son of James Henry and Wybra Riddington, of "Kirtley," Crescent Road. (101, Euston Road 1917 article), Far Cotton, Northampton.

Roberts, Frank

Roberts, Frank Private 12787, 1st Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment. Killed in action in France on Friday, 12th March 1915, aged 15 (he would have been 16 on March 27th 1915). On that day the Battalion was located at Le Touret. Born in Far Cotton, Northampton and he enlisted in Northampton in August 1914. Son of William and Mary Jane Roberts, of 20, Rickard Street (74 Oxford Street in 1915 article), Far Cotton, Northampton. Prior to enlistment he was a porter with Messrs. Adnitt Brothers.

Gunner 131495, "B" Battery. 92nd Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Died of wounds in France Monday, 9th July 1918 aged 27. Born and enlisted in Northampton. Son of George and Emma Roberts, of Far Cotton, Northampton; husband of M. Roberts, of 11, Arthur Terrace, Kingsthorpe Road, Northampton. During his service he was awarded the Military Medal.

Roughton, Francis (Frank)

Roughton, Francis (Frank) Rifleman 572907, 2/17th London Regiment (enlisted as 72376 Royal Army Medical Corps). Killed in action around Kulonieh/Lifta near Jerusalem, Palestine (now Israel) Saturday, 8th December 1917 aged 21. Born Northampton and enlisted in Northampton in October 1915. He had served six months in France, then on the Doiran in Salonica and at the end of 1916 was transferred to Egypt; advancing into Palestine, took part in three Battles of Gaza. Second son of Mr and Mrs Roughton of 31 Marlborough Road, St. James, Northampton and husband of Edith Jane Roughton (nee Hollowell, they married at St Mary’s 23 rd May, 1916), of 84, Euston Road, Far Cotton, Northampton. He had another brother serving in France at the time of his death. Prior to the War he worked for Messrs. Sharman and Co.
